Evil: Abu Qatada has been linked to some of the most sickening terror attacks in recent history
We may have become wearily accustomed to the crazy verdicts of the unelected European Court of Human Rights, which appears to delight in taking sides with rapists, murderers and terrorists against the British public.

But even by the standards of this pack of remote, often poorly qualified Eurocrats, today's judgment in favour of Abu Qatada defies logic.

Quite simply, Qatada is a truly dangerous man. He has inspired or been linked to some of the worst Islamist terrorists in modern history.

Court after court in this country has ruled he is a grave security threat requiring the strictest possible supervision.

The Law Lords, along with a special immigration tribunal, ruled he should be kicked out of Britain (where he and his large family have been living quite comfortably, courtesy of you, the taxpayer).

But Strasbourg says he cannot be sent to Jordan - where he's wanted on suspicion of a Millennium bomb plot - in case his human rights are breached.

It's not that they think Qatada himself will be tortured or ill-treated. They agree he won't.

Rather, somebody who could be called to give evidence against him may have been tortured.

Perverse: The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has overruled every court in Britain in ruling that Abu Qatada can stay in Britain
So he gets to stay and, unless Europe changes its mind, once again wander our streets.

As the Tory MP Dominic Raab says: 'Yet again the Strasbourg Court has imposed a new category of restrictions on our ability to deport serious criminals and suspected terrorists.

'Placing the burden on Britain to ensure foreign criminals and terrorist suspects are tried according to UK standards in their home countries will severely impede our capacity to deport those who pose a risk in this country.
More...Terror cleric Abu Qatada CANNOT be deported to Jordan because it breaches his human rights, European judges rule
Being even softer on child tearaways will not mend broken Britain

'This is a classic example of mission creep, with judicial legislation from Strasbourg running roughshod over decisions that should be determined by UK courts.'

I would add to that the complaint that - once again - Strasbourg has decided it knows better than our own esteemed judges.

This is despite the fact that, in many cases, Euro judges have no judicial experience in their homeland.

If Qatada gets to stay, Britain may as well admit the game is up and that we are no longer in charge of our own affairs.

Rather, our destiny is being decided by foreign judges who - doubtless to their relief - don't have to live amongst the fanatics and killers they keep tipping onto the UK's streets.

When he gets out and he will, someone should make him disappear from our shores for good along with his family and friends.
