DAILY MAIL COMMENT:
No more betrayals on the EU referendumBy Daily Mail Comment

It seems our leaders will hold a referendum on almost anything - except the EU
Consider today the case of the elusive, vanishing referenda.

First, think back seven years to when, with Britain riven with debate over whether to sign the EU constitution, all three main parties gave a manifesto promise to hold a referendum on whether to allow such a huge transfer of powers and sovereignty to Brussels.

In 2008, Labour reneged on this solemn commitment. Then the Liberal Democrats followed suit.

Finally David Cameron did a U-turn on his pledge, saying it would be impossible to renegotiate the constitution, which had become law after being cynically repackaged as the Lisbon Treaty.

After this shameful betrayal, the three main parties again promised, in their 2010 manifestos, that any further changes to the EU with profound implications for this country would be put to a vote.

No one could sanely argue that such profound changes are not now on the way.

For the EU elite, in a desperate bid to save the collapsing single currency, are slowly moving towards nothing less than the creation of a federalist superstate.

It seems that Germany, under plans backed by Mr Cameron yesterday, is considering whether to issue Eurobonds, which effectively underwrite the debts of the euros weaker members.
In return, control of fiscal policy across the entire single currency would pass to Berlin. Effectively, Germany would be running other countries exchequers and their political systems.

The Mail does not believe the citizens of Spain, Germany and Italy would accept this Faustian pact.

But the risk would be that Britain would be left outside a nakedly self-interested eurozone club with its sights trained on the City of London and bearing no resemblance to the Common Market we joined in 1973.

Yet, instead of repeating their earlier, unequivocal promise of a referendum on what Britains role should be in a new Europe and the powers we might seek to reclaim the politicians yesterday resorted to weasel words.

We must quit the EU and be free of its 'shackles' or face joining a 'single country called Europe', says former Labour Foreign Secretary Lord Owen

George Osborne said yes, there will be a vote but only if there is any transfer of power from this country, transfer of competence or transfer of sovereignty.

Ed Miliband limply argues now is not the time to discuss a referendum.
So once again, the referendum proves more elusive than ever (though that wise old statesman Lord Owen says a vote will have to be held sooner rather than later).

The electors can have referenda on elected police chiefs, obscure voting systems and on elected mayors. But on the single most important issue of our times they are denied a democratic say.

Is it any wonder why faith in our political class is near to rock bottom?

It looks like our fearless leader is lining the UK up to become involved with the new europe order with Germany uber alles.
Why should we pay taxes to a government who does not take one iota of interest in its people, lets in millions upon millions of foreigners to take our homes and jobs and we do not get a say. If we are not allowed to own or carry weapons the only thing left to our people who want change is civil disobedience starting with with holding our taxes, then our labour.

NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, a new rebellion against those who would enslave us to Europe.
