New fears over illegal migrants: Thousands will head to Britain within months
FEARS of a new wave of illegal immigration were raised yesterday after Romania declared it was on the brink of joining an EU scheme to allow free movement of people.

Critics-warn-that-poorly-guarded-borders-will-make-illegal-migration-worse Critics warn that poorly guarded borders will make illegal migration worse

The move raises the spectre of thousands of migrants from Africa or the Far East getting into the eastern European country across its poorly guarded borders with the aim of heading to the UK.

Concerns were raised after the Romanian president said yesterday he was hopeful his country would be allowed to join the EUs passport-free Schengen zone within months.

If the proposal is adopted as expected later this year it will make it much easier for illegal migrants to travel west across Europe without checks.

Critics hit out at the new threat, saying it would play into the hands of international gangs of people smugglers.

Euro MP Gerard Batten said: If Romania joins the zone it will only make it easier for illegal immigrants in that country to go to any other country in the zone, including France. Then the only barrier to entry into Britain is the Channel. Although Britain is not in the Schengen zone, we already know our border controls are inadequate. The situation will only become worse if the zone is made any bigger.

Tory MP Peter Bone said: If Romania joins Schengen that means people are going to move across Europe to our borders.

Romania is a hub for people trafficking. It is right on the edge of Europe and people are trafficked into this country from all over the world.

It is a horrendous crime. The freedom of movement across Europe is something every criminal wants.

Romania joining Schengen will only make it easier for international crime gangs to continue with their trade. They specialise in smuggling people across borders so allowing them to move into France without any passport checks will be disastrous for Britain.

Romanias president Traian Basescu said there was a good chance the former Communist state would get the green light to become part of the Schengen area in December.

Romanias neighbour Bulgaria is also expected to push for full membership of the zone at a meeting of EU justice and interior ministers.

According to the European Parliament, Bulgaria and Romania have brought their border security up to EU standards. But not all EU governments agree and a decision on their application to join was postponed last October and again in March.

There is already concern in Britain about an impending flood of legal migrants from Romania and Bulgaria.

Up to 29 million citizens of the two countries will have the right to come to Britain to live when controls barring them from entering the country without a job are dropped at the end of the year.

The curbs were introduced to prevent a repeat of the immigration chaos when Poland, Latvia and other former eastern bloc countries joined the EU in 2004.

The Government has repeatedly refused to give any estimate of the numbers expected to arrive here. But experts predict that up to 250,000 could come to Britain over the next five years.

A Home Office spokeswoman said last night: The UK is not part of the Schengen free movement zone and we will continue with our own full border checks to keep out illegal immigrants.

'Grant all illegal immigrants an amnesty to stay in Britain': Tory MP calls for 'seismic' change in policy to attract minority vote

Nadhim Zahawi says amnesty makes political and economic sense

New direction: Tory MP Nadhim Zahawi believes the all illegal immigrants should be given an amnesty to remain in the country

All illegal immigrants in Britain should be granted an amnesty to stay in the country, a Tory MP has said.

Nadhim Zahawi, MP for Stratford-Upon-Avon, argued that the move makes sense economically and that a 'seismic' shift in policy is needed for the Conservatives to attract votes among minority groups.

But it would represent a major switch in political direction for the party.

Earlier this week Chancellor George Osborne announced that immigrants who claim benefits will have to learn English or see their handouts docked.

Mr Zahawi told The Independent: 'We shouldn't be afraid to think outside our comfort zone. Our failure to appeal to ethnic minorities should send loud alarm bells ringing in Downing Street and Central Office.

'Unless we act now this electoral penalty will only get worse.'

The Tories won just 16 per cent of the non-white vote at the election in 2010.

Lord Ashcroft is among those who has told David Cameron he must do more to woo the ethnic vote.

Being an immigrant himself he wants to open the door to more of his ilk, NOT TO WORK BUT TO VOTE FOR HIM, JUST LIKE LABOUR DID.

Labour 'sent out search parties for immigrants', Lord Mandelson admits
Labour sent out search parties for immigrants in a policy which has created a problem for British people unable to find work, Lord Mandelson has admitted.

Lord Mandelson says Ed Miliband must move on from New Labour idiot: Dan Kitwood/GETTY

The former Cabinet minister confirmed for the first time that New Labour not only welcomed but actively encouraged that mass influx of migrants.

He conceded that this now poses a major difficulty for the partys traditional supporters, according to the Daily Mail.

Earlier this year Ed Miliband admitted that the last Labour government was not sufficiently alive to people's concerns over immigration and his party got the numbers wrong.

But the party leader stopped short of admitting that immigration was too high.

Between 1997 and 2010, more than 2.2 million immigrants came to the country - more than twice the population of Birmingham with the annual net figure quadrupling during their time in office.

Lord Mandelson admitted: In 2004 when as a Labour government, we were not only welcoming people to come into this country to work, we were sending out search parties for people and encouraging them, in some cases, to take up work in this country.

In the past senior figures have denied that they engineered immigration, and three years ago refuted suggestions from adviser Andrew Neather that they encouraged the process to make the UK truly multicultural as a snub to the right.

At a rally for the Blairite think-tank Progress this weekend, Lord Mandelson said that when they began the policy employment was high, but the problem has grown as the economy has stagnated.

They have to realise that watching people of non-British origin enter the labour market is hard for those who are finding it difficult to find and keep work.

For these people immigration tends to loom large in their lives and in their worlds, now that is an inescapable fact, and we have to understand it, address it, engage with people in discussion about it, he said.

Tory chairman Grant Shapps said that the admission that Labour had let immigration spiral out of control was yet another damning indictment on their record on immigration.

These people should be in jail at the very least or hanged from a lamp post for what they have done to our country.

The population in Britain is rising more steeply than anywhere else in Europe, according to official estimates yesterday.

Numbers rose by almost 420,000 in a year, driven by the highest birth rate since 1972.

The figure, which covers the 12 months to the middle of 2012 is more than the population increases in Germany, Belgium, Holland and Sweden combined.

The Office for National Statistics says around four in ten of the additional people are immigrants. Six out of ten are the result of rising birth rates, which brought a 40-year high in the number of babies born last year 254,400 more births than deaths.

But a major cause of the baby boom is immigration. More than a quarter of all newborns have mothers who were born abroad.

The total number of people living in the UK at the end of last June was 63,705,000.

The rate of population increase last year held steady despite Coalition attempts to reduce immigration, the ONS said. Its report said the 419,900 increase in population for 2011-12 was about average for the past decade.

Annual population growth first hit the 400,000 mark in 2005, following the opening of Britains borders and labour market to Poles and other Eastern Europeans in 2004.

The migration scandal goes on unchecked.

This weeks astonishing birth-rate figures, with their frightening implications for schools, housing and public services, are clearly caused by our open borders.

Then theres the overpraised Mrs Theresa Mays latest amazing escape from scandal. Her department covered up its feeble treatment of illegal migrants by blacking out chunks of a damning report. How does she get away with it?

And then theres a Whitehall source (in the foreign aid Ministry) quoted as saying: If there wasnt a conflict in Somalia, there wouldnt be 20,000 Somali migrants in Leicester. Are there? And how does that follow?

The distance from Mogadishu to Leicester is 4,394 miles. This includes Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, the Mediterranean and at least three European countries. Refugees flee FROM countries, not TO countries.

Why are they here?
why are any of them allowed to remain here?
Why is the government doing nothing to stop it?

So why did they open our borders to 800,000 East Europeans?

It may now be hoping to seize the initiative on immigration, but critics put the blame squarely on the Labour party for creating such a problem in the first place.

They point to the flood of immigrants from Eastern Europe after 2004. Ten countries including Poland, Slovakia and the Baltic states joined the European Union that year, giving them access to the internal market.

As a transitional measure, the EU allowed members to restrict immigration from these countries for several years. While France and Germany took advantage, fearful of the effect on their labour markets, Tony Blair chose not to, saying the availability of cheap labour would boost British businesses.

Tony Blair chose not to restrict immigration from Eastern Europe, saying the availability of cheap labour would boost British businesses

The Home Office had estimated a few tens of thousands of people perhaps 30,000 would move to Britain. In fact, it was more than 800,000, placing a huge strain on maternity units, schools and other services.

In 2009, former Labour adviser Andrew Neather said Mr Blair had encouraged immigration to rub the Rights nose in diversity.

When he took over as Prime Minister, Gordon Brown made the pledge of British jobs for British workers. But it soon emerged he was powerless to act because EU rules make it illegal to restrict jobs to natives.

In the 2010 election campaign, Mr Brown was caught on tape calling a woman who challenged him on immigration a bigot.

Tory Robert Halfon angrily pointed out this record in response to Mr Bryant last night.

The MP for Harlow said: I would be much more appreciative of what he has to say if the speech began with a huge apology for the uncontrolled immigration the last Labour government let happen and the mess they left and agreements they signed with the EU that allowed companies like Tesco to hire workers from overseas on the cheap.

He added that the current Government had cut immigration by one-third.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST LIES TO DATE, IMMIGRATION HAS INCREASED BY A THIRD.

In the world of IT, this has been going on for at least 10 years. Workers from India are brought over, hundreds at a time, and used not to fill vacancies but to displace and replace British workers en masse. Entry level jobs disappear, and hundreds of local workers are made redundant. And all because of cost; Indian workers are far cheaper, and enjoy huge tax and NI breaks under the terms if their visas. The numbers arriving in this way are increasing since Cable removed all the caps and limits on this type of visa. The biggest, household name, companies are the worst offenders, but if I named some my comment would probably not get published....

, all you need to do to find out why immigration has been allowed to get so out of control, is follow the money to big business, and who benefits from the cheap labour this immigration provides.

Public mood hardens over migrant workers

Independent on Sunday poll shows most back employing Britons first, while both main party leaders lose popularity

The public believes that the Government should ban immigrants from taking jobs while a million British youngsters are unemployed, a new poll for The Independent on Sunday has found.

As David Cameron and Ed Miliband attempt to finalise their policies on Europe, immigration and employment before the next election, the ComRes survey has revealed a hardening in voters' attitudes to the issue of "British jobs for British workers".

Three-quarters of the public think that it is wrong for the UK to recruit from overseas while a million young people are struggling to find jobs although one in three accept that businesses can't be blamed for looking abroad "because too many British workers are lazy".
WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS!!! I FOR ONE AM SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE TELLING ME THAT IMMIGRANTS ARE NECESSARY BECAUSE WE ARE LAZY

Two-thirds of those questioned think that British firms should give UK citizens priority over other candidates from elsewhere in Europe when hiring new workers even if this means Britain having to leave the European Union. Just 16 per cent disagreed.

The stance on immigration has changed radically in the past four years, as Britain has struggled with deepening recession and strained relations with its EU partners. In 2009, almost six in 10 people agreed that all citizens of other EU countries should have the right to live and work in Britain; today, the same proportion think the opposite.

The rise of Euroscepticism among the electorate is underlined by the surge in Ukip support to 19 per cent, the party's highest showing. The findings appear to give some endorsement to Mr Cameron's attempts to renegotiate the UK's relationship with the EU, as he heads for a showdown with fellow leaders. Last week, the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, declared that talks on whether Brussels should "give something back" to member states could begin within weeks, suggesting Mr Cameron would have to confront a renegotiation of EU powers in this parliament.

The Dutch Deputy Prime Minister has added his voice to concerns over the "negative consequences of the free movement of workers within the European Union". Writing in The IoS today, Lodewijk Asscher warns: "We need to watch out: in some places the dykes are in danger of bursting.

"Most of us benefit from the free movement of workers within the EU. We do not want to see this pillar damaged through dwindling popular support. That is why we, especially on the European centre-left, must think harder about how to make it work in the interests of all our citizens, not just well-educated professionals."

The ComRes survey also showed some support for Mr Miliband's stance on immigration, as three-quarters of those polled said he was right to admit that the last Labour government made major mistakes on immigration.

The headline figures on voting intentions show Labour's support up to 37 per cent, stretching the party's lead over the Tories by one point since last month. After a brief rally in a handful of polls over the last few weeks, both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have slipped back to the share they registered last month, at 28 per cent and 8 per cent respectively.

Labour maintains its healthy lead despite Mr Miliband's net personal ratings plummeting 17 points, with only one in five Britons and fewer than half of Labour voters now saying he is turning out to be a good leader of the Labour Party.

Mr Cameron's rating also fell slightly, with three in 10 people saying he is turning out to be a good Prime Minister, but more than half saying he is not.

The poll confirms the Prime Minister's problem with people who voted Tory in 2010, who make up more than one in four of those who give him a negative rating, compared with only 9 per cent of current Conservative voters.

As in previous polls, Ukip voters are particularly critical of Mr Cameron, with almost three-quarters giving him a negative rating which is nearly as bad as the Prime Minister's showing among Labour voters.

ComRes interviewed 2,001 British adults online between 14 and 15 August 2013. Data were weighted to be demographically representative of all British adults. Data were also weighted by past vote recall.

Approved: most of those being granted passports arrived in 2008

More than two million immigrants have been granted British citizenship since 2000, it can be revealed.

In the past year alone, a record 204,541 requests for a UK passport were rubber-stamped by the Home Office, official figures show.

This is the equivalent of one migrant being given citizenship every two-and-a-half minutes the fastest rate in history.

It means the total number given out since the turn of the century now stands at 2,053,396.

Campaigners say the face of British society has been changed for ever in just 13 years.

The main beneficiaries are from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, China and the Philippines.

Once approved, new citizens are treated in the same way as anybody else with a British passport, including no restrictions on access to housing, benefits or the jobs market.

Sir Andrew Green, chairman of Migrationwatch, said the figures were the inevitable consequence of Labours deliberate policy of mass immigration.

The majority of those currently being given passports arrived in 2008 or earlier. Normally, they qualify for citizenship after living and working in the UK for five years, with officials only able to block those engaged in criminality.

Sir Andrew said: Some four million foreign immigrants have arrived since 1997 of whom, so far, half appear to have qualified for citizenship.
After being in the country for five years immigrants are offered indefinite leave to remain, unless they have committed a crime

After being in the country for five years immigrants are offered indefinite leave to remain, unless they have committed a crime

However, nobody seems to have the slightest idea how to integrate these people into our society in such a short time.

The two million new citizens are entitled to vote in general elections, and critics, including Migrationwatch, have long insisted Labour adopted a deliberate policy of mass immigration for political reasons.

They cite remarks by former Labour speech writer Andrew Neather, who boasted the aim of its immigration strategy was to rub the Rights nose in diversity.

The latest revelations, based on the Home Offices own figures, come at a time when the Tories are battling to bring immigration under control.

Officials are now approving citizenship bids faster than at the height of Labours open-door policy, in 2009, when a then-record 203,789 were rubber stamped.

The figures also shed new light on ministers claims that two-thirds of new jobs are going to British workers. They point to the fact that, over the past year, the number of UK nationals in work has risen by 208,000 compared with an increase of 98,000 in the foreign workforce.

But much of this increase is down to people who were born abroad being handed British passports, rather than UK-born people finding work.

If the figures are recalculated based on a persons place of birth, only 98,000 new jobs have gone to people born in Britain. The vast majority 204,000 were born overseas.

The numbers given permission to settle permanently, the last stage before applying for a passport, also rose by nine per cent in the year to June, to 153,000. There are three main routes to British citizenship, which was granted to only 82,210 people in 2000.
Last year 204,000 jobs were taken by people born overseas, compared with 98,000 British nationals

Last year 204,000 jobs were taken by people born overseas, compared with 98,000 British nationals

The main one is residence. After living here for a fixed-period of time normally five years migrants apply for indefinite leave to remain. Last year, 111,637 qualified in this way.

Significant numbers of passports were obtained through marriage to a British citizen, at 42,048, or by being the child of a British national, 45,772.

In the previous year, to June 2012, 179,697 passports were given out 14 per cent fewer.

Migrants must also pass the Life in the UK multiple choice test recently condemned as a bad pub quiz by a Durham University academic.

Dr Thom Brooks said the latest version fails to mention GCSEs or A-levels, or practical necessities such as how to report a crime.

Home Secretary Theresa May has been battling to get net migration the number of people arriving in Britain, versus those leaving under control.

Ministers have promised to reduce it to the tens of thousands by the next election.

It had been falling steadily and was 153,000 in the year to September 2012. But, in a blow to the Government, it has risen to an estimated 176,000 a year.

The rise was driven by a drop in the numbers leaving, from 351,000 to 321,000 in the year to December 2012, the Office for National Statistics said, while the number of arrivals fell from 566,000 to 497,000.

Last night a Tory party spokesman said: This shows were still seeing the consequences of Labours open-door immigration policy. We are tightening the rules and have cut net migration by a third since 2010.

The Home Office said: British citizenship is a privilege, not a right. We are toughening up language requirements for naturalisation and latest figures show applications for citizenship are falling. Immigration is at its lowest for a decade.

Migrants send 255billion home to their families compared to 77 billion foreign aid, World Bank study reveals

The figure will likely surpass 308 billion ($500 billion) by 2016
Remittance almost four times more important to than official foreign aid

PUBLISHED: 14:40, 3 October 2013 | UPDATED: 17:33, 3 October 2013

Money that migrant workers send to their families and homeland is far more valuable to developing countries than foreign aid and is expected to grow 6.3 percent this year, revelaed a new World Bank study.

Migrants are expected to send 255 billion ($414 billion) in remittances home this year to developing countries, the study said, and the figure will likely surpass 308 billion ($500 billion) by 2016.

That makes remittance funds almost four times more important to developing nations than official foreign aid from governments, which the United Nations says amounts to about 77 billion ($126 billion) a year.

The current global total of remittances to all nations is 338 million.

China got 37 billion ($60 billion,) the Philippines 16 billion ($26 billion,) Mexico 13 billion ($22 billion) Nigeria12 billion ($21 billion) and Egypt 12 billion ($20 billion.)

Money sent home by migrants is crucial to some nations.

Almost half of Tajikistan's gross domestic product comes from remittances, the study said. Kyrgyzstan gets 31 percent of its GDP from remittances; Lesotho and Nepal, 25 percent; and Moldova, 24 percent.

Growth of remittances has been robust all around the world except in Latin America and the Caribbean, where the recent recession in the United States hampered the regional economy.

Remittances should be encouraged to go through official channels, the World Bank said, but many migrants use informal methods to send money home.

This is partly the legacy of the World Trade Center and Pentagon terror attacks in 2001; the United States shut down many money-transfer offices as a way of cutting off potential fund sources for terrorists and worked with countries around the world to shut down fund-transfer agencies.

The World Bank said the cost of sending money now averages 9 percent of the transaction, and ways should be found to make it cheaper by working through official channels.

The U.N. says there were 232 million international migrants this year, up from 175 million in 2000.

The World Bank study comes on the eve of a two-day high-level meeting at the U.N. General Assembly on issues and problems involving migrants and development.

Immigration and the EU: BBC bias at its most blatant

By Douglas Carswell Politics Last updated: October 21st, 2013

Huw Edwards could have been reading a European Commission press release

Rarely is BBC bias quite so blatant.

A few days ago, a European Commission-funded report was published about the impact of benefit tourism. With the European Commission taking legal action against the UK government over the right of EU citizens to claim benefits in Britain, Brussels certainly has a dog in the fight.

And sure enough, EU Commissioner, Lszl Andor, unveiled the report with a declaration that so called benefit tourism is neither widespread nor systematic.

Nothing to see. Move along, seemed to be the line from Brussels.

Disgracefully the BBC seemed to swallow it all hook, line and sinker.

Claims about large-scale benefits tourism in the EU are exaggerated, Huw Edwards informed us on the Ten OClock news. The report rebuffed claims about benefit tourism, announced the BBC website.

Really? If the BBC editorial team had read the detail of the report, it is hard to see how they could possibly draw that conclusion.

Worse, the BBC editorial line seemed to ignore entirely the central, thudding issue at stake: the UK is one of only five EU states (the others being Finland, Germany, Estonia and Ireland) that offer non contributory benefits to the unemployed. In other words, only if you live in one of those countries are you able to claim unemployment benefits without having paid into the system.

If you or I or the BBC home affairs editor Mark Easton pitched up in France, Italy or Greece, we could not claim unemployment benefit without having contributed into the system. (There might, as someone in the comment thread will point out, be a million or so Brits living in Spain, but they have no right to claim any Spanish benefits that their taxes have not contributed towards.)

The European Commission is, however, demanding that if Brits can claim non-contributory unemployment benefit in Britain, then so too must every EU citizen. It is the whole reason why they commissioned this report in the first place. That there are no corresponding non-contributory entitlements for Brits to claim in most of Europe is something they ignore. We must open our system up to all comers, they insist.

Ridiculous? Too absurd to take seriously? Not if we rely on the BBC to report on what is happening and set the parameters of public debate.

Already one in every 25 claimants on Job Seekers Allowance is an EU migrant. I must have missed the bit where the BBC pointed this out.

There has been a 70 percent increase in migration from the EU over the past few years, a rise in the rate of unemployment amongst EU migrants, and a sharp increase in the number coming to the UK without work. Where did the BBC examine the public policy implications of this?

The report concluded that welfare payments were not acting as a magnet, on the basis of something called stakeholder consultations. In other words, officials asking other officials. Yet the BBC coverage seemed to take it all at face value.

Nor did the report that the BBC said rebuffed the idea of benefit migration make any effort to assess how many EU migrants were claiming housing benefit (I could find only three uses of the term in the report at all). Or council tax benefit, or indeed, various other non-contributory benefits that Brussels would like us to make available to all EU citizens.

For a public service broadcaster, youd have thought that the report posed a key question; can the UKs system of benefits survive if we have completely free movement of people within the EU, and no residency qualifications?

The BBC did not seem to ask it.

With Romanians and Bulgarians soon able to move to Britain, youd have thought the impact of free movement across the EU on the sustainability of our welfare system merited further questions.

The BBC did not seem to think so.

For years, official opinion in this country on immigration, the EU and much else has been formed this way. Lazy, Lefty analysis, with the same tiny pool of experts, recycling the same identikit opinions. Thankfully the internet has begun to democratise comment and opinion forming. We can at last start to see how awful and out of touch the opinion forming classes can be.

A final thought. If we had state regulation of the press, the BBC would be free to carry on recycling its establishment clichs. But newspapers would find themselves having to answer to the same sort of grandees that preside over the BBC. Is that really what we want to see?

Immigration a mistake? Come off it, Jack! How Labour set out to transform the demographic make-up of England,
by RICHARD LITTLEJOHN

PUBLISHED: 22:14, 14 November 2013 | UPDATED: 22:26, 14 November 2013

Two former Labour Home Secretaries are being congratulated on their belated candour about immigration. Jack Straw now says letting so many people settle in Britain was a spectacular mistake.

David Blunkett has gone further, warning of civil unrest in his home city of Sheffield because the behaviour of recently arrived Roma gypsies is aggravating the locals.

Joy there is said to be in Heaven over every repentant sinner. But before the angels start cracking open the Bollinger, it is worth pausing to consider the part played by both men in creating the mess we find ourselves in today. Straw and Blunkett were two of the most senior figures of the Blair/Brown era. They were fully signed up to the New Labour project.

Mass immigration wasnt a mistake. A mistake is forgetting to take an umbrella when heavy rain is forecast. A mistake is wearing brown suede shoes with a blue pinstripe suit.

No, trawling the globe for immigrants was a deliberate Labour policy. It was designed, in the memorable words of former Blair speech-writer Andrew Neather, to rub the Rights noses in diversity.

Neather says Straw conspired with Blair to dishonestly conceal the plan from the public because they knew voters would never go along with it if the truth came out. And Neather should know, because he worked for Straw at the Home Office.

The reptilian Peter Mandelson, another co-conspirator, has since joked about Labour sending search parties for immigrants from the four corners of the Earth.

Immigration, talk of race riots and why ministers can't claim they haven't been warned, by STEPHEN GLOVER

DAILY MAIL COMMENT: Migration was Labour's spectacular mistake

Labour set out utterly to transform the demographic make-up of England without making any attempt to obtain democratic consent.

I say England specifically, because it is England which has borne the brunt of mass immigration and is now struggling to live with the consequences.

New Labour hated the English. We werent to be trusted. In 2000, Straw himself damned the English as violent nationalists who have used force to subjugate other races. It was a despicable slur, but entirely in keeping with Labours core strategy.

That preposterous Welsh-born oaf Two Jags, who demeaned high office for a decade, even claimed: There is no such nationality as English.

The fear was that the love affair with New Labour wouldnt last and the English would revert to type and return a Conservative government. So the plan was to flood the country with immigrants who would then repay the favour by voting Labour.

Ministers told bare-faced lies about their true intentions and smeared anyone who objected to the unprecedented influx of foreign nationals as a racist or a xenophobe.

Sir Andrew Green, the mild-mannered former diplomat who runs Migration Watch UK, was subjected to a vile and sustained campaign of character assassination. Greens crime was to expose, forensically and accurately, the genuine scale of immigration.

Straw was up to his neck in this synchronised deceit. Now that he is standing down as an MP and no longer has to ingratiate himself with his Muslim constituents in Blackburn, he seems to think that a quick mea culpa and a couple of Hail Marys will absolve him of his share of responsibility.

Blunkett, too, is one of the guilty men. You didnt have to hack his mobile phone to divine his real intentions. In 2003, Blunkett declared there was no obvious upper limit to immigration. So its a bit rich for him to complain about the consequences in his own backyard.

In Sheffield, the locals are angry about Roma gypsies loitering in the streets and dumping litter.

Blunkett said: We have got to be tough and robust in saying to these people: You are not living in a downtrodden village or woodlands.

This would be hilarious were it not so tragic. Labours pernicious policy of multi-culturalism encouraged immigrants to carry on behaving as they did in their homeland with no concessions to the host community.

The sheer weight of numbers arriving in a short space of time meant that there was no need for them to integrate. The multi-cultists expected British society to adapt to accommodate immigrants, not vice versa.

This column has always maintained that among those most disrupted and disturbed by the recent waves of unfettered migration are the members of settled minorities.

In London, there have been tensions between the long-established Cypriot community and Johnny-come-lately Albanians, Kosovans and Kurds. Elsewhere, West Indians have clashed with Somalis.
Straw, Blunkett and the rest of their Labour co-conspirators shouldn't expect to be applauded for admitting that the scales have now fallen from their eyes. They should hang their heads in shame

Straw, Blunkett and the rest of their Labour co-conspirators shouldn't expect to be applauded for admitting that the scales have now fallen from their eyes. They should hang their heads in shame

It can be no coincidence that in Sheffield, local Pakistanis have started street patrols to educate the Roma about how to behave in England.

What did Blunkett expect the itinerant Roma people to do once they landed in Yorkshire open agreeable little restaurants and set up community recycling schemes?

Astonishingly, this country now has one of the biggest Roma populations in Europe 200,000 and counting, even before Romanians and Bulgarians get the right to work and feast on Britains benefits buffet in January.

How did that happen and who voted for it? I can see whats in it for them, but whats in it for the rest of us?

At this point it is only polite to record the many advantages immigrants have brought. But it is absurd to pretend that mass immigration has been an unalloyed success story.

Those of us who expressed reservations about Labours reckless open-door immigration policy were howled down and smeared as neanderthal racists by Labour and its allies in the BBC and the Left-wing press.

This was never about immigration in itself; it was about numbers and the wisdom of allowing millions of newcomers with no historic connection to Britain to settle here in such a short period of time.

Straw and Blunkett now see themselves as wise elder statesman. They will get their reward in the House of Lords, where they will draw their gold-plated pensions and be waited on hand and foot by liveried flunkies.

Meanwhile, the rest of us will have to live with the consequences of their disastrous, cynical immigration scamboli as best we can.

Straw, Blunkett and the rest of their Labour co-conspirators shouldnt expect to be applauded for admitting that the scales have now fallen from their eyes. They should hang along with Bliar and all the traitors who have destroyed our country for money.

Up to 15,000 immigrants sneak into Britain through Calais every year: Deputy Mayor says town has become a 'magnet' for foreigners trying to cross the Channel

Claims made by town's deputy mayor Phillipe Mignonet
He joined the call for Britain to do more to stop migrants using the route
Suggested the border be moved to other side of the channel to resolves the problem

Up to 15,000 immigrants are sneaking into Britain a year through Calais, the French towns deputy mayor has claimed.

Philippe Mignonet, who is also the ports immigration chief, went public with the estimate because he said Calais was becoming a magnet for illegal immigrants', with hundreds of foreigners sleeping rough there before stowing away aboard lorries and ferries.

According to our estimations, depending on the night, between 10, 20, even 40 are getting through, he said.

The official's criticism of Britain came just days after French Interior Minister Manuel Valls called on the UK to change its immigration policy because of the pressure that Calais was under.

Calais' mayor, Philippe Mignonet, accused 'hypocritical' Britain of talking tough on immigration but failing to act

Mr Mignonet said: The ease with which illegal immigrants can work on the black market in Britain, coupled with the fact that migrants family members can more easily join them, means that Britain is a magnet for illegal immigrants.

It is far harder for newcomers to claim benefits or get jobs in France, where the socialist government regularly deports migrants, and destroys their illegal encampments.

The UK Border Force shares responsibility with the French for patrolling Calais, but Mr Mignonet says the main controls should be transferred to the south coast of England to deal with what is principally a British problem.

He told the Daily Telegraph: The quickest, most radical and easiest solution would be simply to shift the border from Calais to Dover and Folkestone and then the problem wouldnt be handled in France but Britain.

Mr Mignonet attacked hypocritical Britain for talking tough on immigration, but then allowing hundreds of thousands to stay, and said if this continued, France would just let them through.

He said Britain needed to do more to halt the tide of migrants heading there through Calais, and said Britain had a 'hypocritical' attitude, talking tough but doing little to actively discourage illegal immigrants.

The deputy mayor also said that hundreds tried to slip through the border every night, with several of them evading border staff successfully, despite officers' best attempts.

He said: The quickest, most radical and easiest solution would be simply to shift the border from Calais to Dover and Folkstone. and then the problem wouldnt be handled in France but Britain.

On Friday, Interior Minister Mr Valls said he sympathised with Calais plight.

He criticised the impasse in communication between British border authorities and their French counterparts in the English Channel port, and invited the Home Secretary, Theresa May, to visit the area to see the pressure on French border guards.

Speaking at the port, Mr Valls said: We need full and complete cooperation between all parties.

We will also, no doubt, need to flesh out and renegotiate certain agreements, in order to reinforce Frances cooperation with Britain and Europe.

Our British friends must realise the burden, the weight, which is on France.

The Home Office said the UK already has staff in France who are tasked with aiding their French colleagues in the battle to stop immigrants travelling illegally.

The Sangatte camp, which was previously used to accommodate immigrants attempting to head to Britain, was closed in 2002 after riots.

Under a deal set up concerning the camps operation, Britain pays a contribution towards the policing of the migrant problem in Calais.

But the closure of Sangatte failed to stop migrants coming to Calais. According to French news wire service AFP up to 500 undocumented migrants currently live in semi-permanent camps in the port town.

Last week the House of Commons public accounts committee blamed staff shortages in the Border Force for failures in checking lorries for stowaways.

In turn, the Force insists that it is stopping thousands of people every year from illegally entering Britain from France.

What a load of cobblers, add a nought on the end of 15,000 to bring it to the real figure of 150.000 and not forgetting the millions of EU immigrants coming next week from Romania and Bulgaria, i am sure industry here is champing at the bit to employ them over Brits.

The number of children in the UK who have non-British parents has soared, with almost nine in ten babies born in 2012 born to at least one foreign parent.

Just three in 10 London babies born in 2012 had both parents born in the UK, and in three London boroughs, as few as one fifth of babies had British-born parents.

Across England and Wales, one in three babies had non-UK born parents, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The number of non-British people who come to the UK to have children has increased, as the proportion of babies with foreign-born mothers or fathers went from 21.2 per cent in 2000 to 31.4 per cent in 2012.

The number of foreign-born people in Britain has quadrupled over the past 60 years, with immigration being at the heart of almost half of all population growth.

David Cameron has announced that restrictions on EU migrants claiming benefits in the new year, which he said would make the UK a 'less attractive place for EU migrants'.

EU citizens who come to the UK will have to wait three months before they can claim out-of-work benefits, while those who fail an English test will also be denied some benefits.

But the restrictions are coming into place at the same time as restrictions are dropped on Romanians and Bulgarians taking certain jobs when they come to Britain.
Cap: David Cameron's proposals include a cap of 75,000 EU migrants and limiting access to benefits

Previously, temporary restrictions - which had been extended to their maximum period of seven years after Bulgarians and Romanians gained the right to visa-free travel in the UK in 2007 - meant low-skilled workers were restricted by quotas, employers had to apply for work permits and migrants for an 'accession worker card'.

Once these restrictions expire, Bulgarians and Romanians should be entitled to claim the same benefits and NHS care as other EU citizens.

The Home Office has proposed a 75,000 cap on EU migrants - although Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has slammed this as 'pointless', 'arbitrary' and 'distracting'.

Meanwhile, Labour's immigration policy has been blamed for allowing foreign workers an 'open door'.

Conservative MP Nigel Mills said: 'The rate of change over the past decade has been staggering. We have to be concerned.

'It is creating problems for community cohesion. It is also leading to rising tensions.

'There is justifiable concern about the impact this is having on young British people looking for jobs, and about benefit tourism.'

In 2012, 88,086 babies born in London - equivalent to 65.6 per cent - had either one or two parents born outside the UK.

There were 27,722 births where one parent was foreign-born, and 60,364 where both parents were born abroad.

In Newham, East London, 5,464 babies - 85 per cent - had one or more parents who were born abroad. In Brent, in West London, and Westminster, in central London, more than eight in 10 babies were foreign-born.

In only six of 32 London boroughs were fewer than 50 per cent of births to non-British parents.

Outside London, the highest percentages were in the West Midlands, where 28.5 per cent of babies had at least one foreign parent, and the South East, where it was 27.9 per cent. In the East of England, it was 27.3 per cent.

The lowest levels of babies with foreign-born parents were in the North East, with 13.2 per cent, and Wales, where the figure was 13.8 per cent.

The ONS said that the number of people in England and Wales who were born abroad has risen from 1.9million, 4.3 per cent of the total population, to 7.5million foreign people, equivalent to 13 per cent.

This was the first time that the ONS has released a detailed breakdown for both parents as opposed to just mothers - a significantly lower figure.

Figures from the most recent census, in 2011, showed the biggest migrant group was those born in India, which accounts for 694,000 people in England and Wales. Poland was in second place, with 579,000.

The figures from The Office for National Statistics show that the proportion of babies with foreign-born parents has risen from 21.2 per cent in 2000 to 31.4 per cent last year.

WITH IN 20 YEARS TRUE BRITS WILL BE THE MINORITY IN THERE OWN COUNTRY AND THE GOVERNMENT IS DOING ALL IT CAN TO MAKE IT 10 YEARS.
