Derrick Sole Their Future They Gave (For Europe to be free).
They were young, and never to get old, they came together on this day, for some their last, they were told, a prophesy for many that came true, they float in the sea, and scatted across the sand, bodies, more than a few.
Still boys who will never become men, they gave up their future, so Europe could be free again, sixty two thousand and more, packed in boats to bring them ashore, many drew their last breath, water too deep, they sank to their death.
Others fought through the waves, to charge up a beach, so many did not make it, the highest price they paid, the blood of the young, and many who were old, ran into the sand, and the sea so cold.
They came to the land mass of Europe, across the open sea, from this island of Great Britain, so the people, from the grip of a dictator, could be free, a flotilla of boats took them there, they faced death but first they faced their fear.
Those that made it to the sand, pushed aside friends now dead with their own hands, flesh torn by metal hot, limbs missing, large holes where more than once they had been shot, they fell next to them on the beach, even when safety they thought they had reached.
Many that were young and those that were old, died to free Europe from the dictators hold, they came up on sights never seen before, concentration camp, bodies piled high by the score, friends and family they had lost on the way, so people of Europe, would be free for ever and a day.
Now we know they died in vain, the trauma of war, may live again, they set millions of people free, from the grip of the unelected dictators, for themselves, and their country.
Civilisation has not travelled that far, under the guise of trade, the unelected in Europe, dictators they are, but no Churchill have we, more Chamberlin in a dress and fancy shoes, in number ten you will see.
To the bullies of Europe we used to make our stand, with eyes like rabbits in the headlights, they now fall to their command, all those whose lives they gave, to free us all, never again to be slaves.
Betrayed by the greed of a few, betrayed by the politicians, elected by me and you, betrayed for the gravy train, betrayed by cowardice gain, our politicians in their infamy, betrayed all who sacrificed their lives, for freedom, not tyranny.
