Anger as Parliament BLOCKS bid to stop EU citizens benefits tourism
EXCLUSIVE: THE GOVERNMENT has sparked fury after blocking a bid to stop non-UK citizens being able to receive the same benefits and entitlements as British citizens.

Sir Chris Chope's Bill was blocked
The Bill would have given EU citizens the same status as overseas immigrations, and, in a bid to stop benefits tourism, would cap any entitlement they can receive at the amount they would have received in their home country.

Sir Christopher Chope, Tory MP for Christchurch, had tabled the Private Members Bill on Friday - but it was blocked in Parliament.

The leading Brexiteer says he wants to stop people from the EU having a privileged position compared to people from outside the EU so everyone has an even footing.

He also wants to stop foreign workers being subsidised by UK taxpayers.

Immigration reduction must be Brexit RED LINE for PM May, warns Lord
We have done this A second vote on Brexit would be DISASTROUS'
If were going to subsidise any workers, shouldnt it be our own ones?

Sir Chris Chope

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, he said: This bill is designed to fit in with the Brexit scenario, in which everybody who comes to the United Kingdom from abroad is treated equally.

This means someone who comes from the Philippines would have the same rules applied to them as someone from Latvia.

The idea of this bill is to ensure that people who come here to work and fill a gap in the labour market do not get subsidised by the UK taxpayer at the expense of homegrown workers.

If were going to subsidise any workers, shouldnt it be our own ones?

But although the Bill was quashed, Sir Christopher isnt giving up - he plans to use the Bill to generate a conversation.

He added: My purpose in putting forward the Bill was not to get it in the statute book, rather to keep the debate about the link between benefits and employment a live one.

I shall use it as a vehicle to maintain the pressure.

The Bill has a lot of governmental support, and I think it strikes a chord with what most people in Britain think.

Jacob Rees-Mogg GETTY

Jacob Rees-Mogg backed the Bill
Mr Peter Bone, Mr Ranil Jayawardena, Martin Vickers, Philip Davies and Sir Edward Leigh have pledged their support to the Bill.

A government spokesperson said: The country has voted to leave the EU and we are focused on negotiating the best deal for Britain. Access to benefits falls within these negotiations.

In light of the Office for Budget Responsibilitys new findings that Brexit will benefit the economy, Sir Christopher slammed they previous gloomy forecasts as too simplistic.

He added: We now can see restrictions on migrants from overseas will boost productivity in the UK because it will force employers to train the home grown work force to be more efficient and effective.

It comes as Sir Christoper joined other Conservative Brexiteers, such as Jacob-Rees Mogg, in refusing to sign off on a report last week calling to extend the period for the UK leaving the EU if more time is needed to agree a UK-EU trade deal.

Bitter divisions had erupted over whether the Commons Brexit committee should warn that the two-year implementation period was not long enough to resolve a host of issues.
I NOTICE THAT THERE WAS NO ONE NAMED WHO STOPPED THIS BILL-----------I COULD ONLY BE THE LIBDUM AND LABOUR WHO WANT THE PUBLICS MONEY GIVEN TO ANYONE WHO IS NOT BRITISH ------THESE PEOPLE ARE THE REAL ENEMY WITHIN IF THEY THINK THAT THEY CAN GIVE AWAY WORKING PEOPLES TAX MONEY TO WHO THEY LIKE ----BUT NOT BACK TO THE PEOPLE WHO PAID IT---------A NEW SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT IS NEEDED WHERE WE CAN GET RID OF THESE PARASITES ONCE AND FOR ALL

I saw the programme on TV on 'How to get a Council House'.
This Romanian, wife and five kids arrived in London and went straight to Council for accommodation. He was on Jobseekers benefit. Because of this he was housed in a 750 pcm house in Birmingham. He had been told how to do this and there are probably thousands of these scumbags at it. After six weeks, surprise, surprse he was not working. This whole family of parasites had come here to live off benefits. Thank God we are leaving the EU.
