THOUSANDS of readers have expressed their outrage at threats to axe the oldest regiment in the British Army.

The Sunday Express exclusively revealed last week that the Coldstream Guards, motto Second To None, is the most likely casualty of Britains five elite Footguards regiments, because it is less famous than the Grenadier Guards.

The Irish, Scottish and Welsh Guards, are likely to be saved for reasons of regional sensitivity.

Last week we asked readers whether the 360-year-old Coldstream Guards, which was named after the Scottish border town but has strong links to Exeter in Devon and a rich history, should be saved.

The vast majority, 96.5 per cent, of the thousands of people who replied, agreed it should not be disbanded.

We have been inundated with letters from readers expressing their anger at the move, which is part of Ministry of Defence plans to cut the Army from 101,000 to 80,000 troops by 2020.

The Coldstream Guards have a proud history...please save this wonderful regiment.
Jane Fraser-Cross, from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands

Jane Fraser-Cross, from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, said: The Coldstream Guards have a proud history. From 1650 they have served their king, queen and country, so please save this wonderful regiment.

Paul Robinson, from Romsey, Hampshire, wrote to David Cameron saying: I cannot believe that a Conservative Prime Minister can allow one of the finest and oldest regiments in the British Army to be disbanded.

In Exeter, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Stella Brock, said the news came just two weeks after the regiment was awarded the Freedom of the City.

She said: That day could not have better shown the publics feeling towards the regiment.

The streets of this most historic, loyal city were packed six deep, with thousands of locals and those from further afield trying to get a glimpse of our brave troops in their iconic red tunics and bearskins

A NEW MAGNA CARTA GOVERNMENT WILL PUT INDIGENOUS BRITISH PEOPLE & THEIR TRADITIONS FIRST, JOIN THE IMPERIAL PARTY AND PUT BRITAIN RIGHT.
