David Cameron was accused of arrogance yesterday as another powerful South American group sided with Argentina over the Falklands.
Unasur, the South American equivalent of the EU, called on Britain to negotiate over the disputed islands.

In a joint declaration following a meeting in Paraguay, it also criticised British oil exploration in the South Atlantic � just days after Argentina threatened legal action against the practice.

UNASUR, whose 12 member countries include Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay, urged Britain �to restart negotiations as soon as possible with a view to ending the dispute.�

Referring to the islands by their Spanish name, it added: �The British military presence in the Malvinas is contrary to regional policy which supports the search for a peaceful solution in the dispute over sovereignty.

�We reject the development of unilateral activities by Great Britain in the disputed area, which include the exploration and exploitation of natural resources as well as the execution of military exercises.�

Argentina has already won the support of trading block Mercosur, which includes Brazil and Uruguay, in banning Falklands-flagged ships from their ports.

Colombia and Chile were among the countries Foreign Office minister Jeremy Browne visited last week in attempts to improve Britain�s ties with south America.

Argentina has announced it will take legal action against companies searching for oil around the Falklands as well as firms that support oil exploration.

Britain has accused Argentina of a campaign of intimidation towards the Falkland Islands.

The situation is set to worsen this week as regional governors in two Argentine provinces debate plans to ban planes from the Falklands landing except for humanitarian reasons - and stop shops displaying clothes with the Union Jack on them.

Nearly all of these states need to sort out the horrendous mess in their own back yards first. But what better distraction from internal strife than to create a common enemy from far away. Who cares what they think? We can send nuclear submarines to safeguard the Falklands. No country in South America can reciprocate. It's that simple. I would go for a more direct approach. Do not issue any more visas to citizens of those countries and do not renew the visas of those already here. Anyone who lives in London knows full well that the estimates of 200k plus Latinos living in the capital are likely to be very conservative, so if will affect them far more than it does us, I believe there are around 20k proper Brits in all of the continent of South America. As usual, one way traffic.

Oh well we need a war to take our minds off what the EU is doing to our country, maybe this time we will invade Argentina and claim it for the UK.

Peru cancels visit of British warship in show of support for Argentina over Falkland Islands

A visit by a Royal Navy frigate to Peru has been cancelled by the hosts in a display of solidarity with Argentina over the Falklands.

HMS Montrose was due to visit the country later this week but the Peruvian government has withdrawn its welcome for the ship.

Foreign minister Rafael Roncagliolo told Peru-based news agency Andina: 'This decision has been taken in the spirit of Latin American solidarity commitments undertaken in the framework of Unasur (Union of South American Nations) with regard to the legitimate rights of Argentina in the sovereignty dispute over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding waters.'

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said officials could have raised the issue with Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne when he visited the country last week.

A spokesman said: 'HMS Montrose was scheduled to make a short visit to Peru as part of a routine deployment to the region.

'This was agreed as an act of friendship and cooperation between Peru and the UK.

'Ship visits are a sovereign decision for states, but we regret that Peru has revoked its previous agreement to this visit.

'This is despite the Peruvian government having had the opportunity on Friday to raise any concerns it had about this agreed co-operation.'

As Britain and Argentina prepare to mark the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War, Buenos Aires again has its sights on claiming the territory it calls Las Malvinas for itself.

Argentina has accused the UK of 'militarising' the dispute by reportedly sending a submarine carrying nuclear weapons to the South Atlantic, something that Britain has not confirmed.
They also objected to the Duke of Cambridge�s posting to the Falklands as an RAF rescue helicopter pilot and the deployment to the region of one of the Royal Navy�s most modern destroyers, HMS Dauntless.
Last week Argentina threatened to take legal action against British companies involved in oil exploration, a move dismissed by the FCO as 'wholly counter-productive'.

In turn Britain insists its movements of troops and warships are purely routine, and claims Argentina is trying to impose an 'economic blockade' on the Falklands by restricting shipping to and from the islands.

Last month Argentinian president Cristina Kirchner de Fernandez said she was making a formal complaint about the UK�s conduct to the United Nations, noting that she would have preferred to see Prince William 'in civilian clothes and not in military uniform'.

Prime Minister David Cameron responded by saying he believed the UN would back the islands� status as a self-governing British overseas territory and warning that Britain would 'defend the Falkland Islands properly'.

The FCO spokesman added: 'The UK Government remains fully committed to the Falkland islanders� right to self determination. This position will not change.'

Time to end any aid or funding to any south american country that supports this claim, stop imports of their goods and repatriate all of their citizens living in the UK.
Simples, job done.
