Deporting a brave Briton while we shelter terrorists is sheer insanity

..
Raised and educated in Britain from the age of three,Professor Tulloch has held a series of posts at British universities
On Thursday, the House of Commons will debate the state of immigration and population in this country, against the background of new statistics that would be shocking, were such numbers not all too familiar. Some 63 million people now live in the UK, an increase of 4.3 million since 2001.

The population of England and Wales has seen its largest ten-year rise since records began. A quarter of all births were to mothers born abroad that proportion rising to 56.7 per cent in London. Almost 47 per cent of all births in the capital were to parents both of whom were born outside Britain.

Between 2010 and 2035, the UKs population is expected to grow by almost 11 million; around half of this increase will be a direct result of immigration. A further 21 per cent will be an indirect result through the higher birth rate of new migrants. And bear in mind that Britain already has a density of population higher than Germany, and more than twice as high as France.

Intolerable
This is the background against which we read yesterdays deplorable tale of the looming deportation of 70-year-old Professor John Tulloch, an academic who traces his British ancestry back to the 14th century, and was born to British parents in a British colony.

He has a British wife, children and brother. He was raised and educated in Britain from the age of three, and has lived or worked in Britain for decades in a series of university roles. He even held a British passport.

Not only that, he was also a victim of the 7/7 bombings: the now famous idiot of his shocked and bloodied face has become one of the most iconic images of that terrible day.

Royal support: After visiting him in hospital, the Prince of Wales said he exemplified the 'resilience of the British people'
Yet Professor Tullochs problem, in the eyes of the UK Border Agency, is that he was born the son of a British Army officer who was at the time serving in imperial India. When India became independent in 1947, such white Indians were given some British rights of residence but only on sufferance.

When John Tulloch went to work in Australia some years ago, he acquired an Australian passport, believing he could have dual nationality.
Yet in doing so, he actually forfeited his right to his British passport.

His old British passport which, unbeknown to him did not grant him citizenship has been confiscated.

He is on notice to book a flight. At his age not least because he owns a flat in Cardiff, where he has worked for years it is an intolerably bitter pill. He has described himself as gobsmacked, adding simply: Its like Kafka.

The authorities are implacable, however: this may be a hard case, they say, but it is the law. Here is the Government responding to public concern about uncontrolled immigration; if we bend the rules for Tulloch, its argument runs, how can we enforce them against Somali asylum-seekers, Romanian gipsies or Iraqi phoney students?

I will bet my socks that no queue of hungry human rights lawyers knocks at John Tullochs door, begging to be allowed to take on his case.

He is a white middle-class professional with no experience of terrorism except as a victim and with no criminal convictions. How could a self-respecting British brief, never mind a judge, get excited about his hard-luck story?

But the British people will: they can see that Tullochs story, and threatened expulsion, are affronts both to natural justice and to common sense. Almost nobody in this country has the smallest objection to people of his kind and heritage what used to be called kith and kin coming and going as often as they like.

Apart from anything else, even if the law regards him as an Australian citizen, the ties between our two countries run deep. We share a head of state. We have fought shoulder to shoulder at Gallipoli and in the trenches of France.

This now famous idiot of his shocked and bloodied face has become one of the most iconic images of that terrible day
Professor Tulloch is a hard-working professional, who has borne with exemplary dignity and courage the terrible experience of suffering injury and trauma in the London Tube bombings; a man whom we recognise as one of our own. That is not a racist statement, but a cultural one.

Meanwhile, almost daily we see Britain made to look ridiculous, by being obliged to admit here people who speak little or no English; who, far from wishing to embrace our culture and values, are often determined to distance themselves from them.

The judiciary again and again grant permission to criminals, Islamic militants and supporters of terrorism to stay here, even when they have grossly abused Britains hospitality. At present, there are at least 11 foreign-born terrorists who have been excused deportation after being jailed here because their human rights would be at risk.

And there are many other cases that are equally shameful.

Courage
Take Iona Gureanu, a Romanian fraudster specialising in ATM theft, who was deported in 2002, but promptly returned illegally to London and plied his criminal trade for six years before being caught and convicted.

Or the Somali thug Ahmed Daq, who had a long record of violent crime in Britain, yet was released from detention by the High Court in 2009 because there was no realistic prospect of securing his deportation.

Or consider the case of failed Jamaican asylum-seeker Courtney Burry, who has been escaping deportation from Scotland for a decade, despite repeated legal efforts and allegations that he has committed serious domestic violence. His case has so far cost the taxpayer 400,000.

Ridiculous: When Tulloch got an Australian passport when he went there to work, he unknowingly forfeited his right to his British passport and thus the Border Agency has decreed that it is time for him to go
It is unnecessary to continue the catalogue of gross injustices and that is what they are, gross injustices to the British people because we know all too well how the system works, or rather fails.

Last week, it was reported that the Home Office has revoked the licence of London Metropolitan University to admit foreign students, because so many have abused their admissions here.

More...7/7 victim: 'Briton' who survived the London bombings risks being deported - because he was born in India
The fury of a 7/7 bombing victim: Born to British parents. Married to a British wife. A symbol of British courage. So why is he now facing deportation?

They fail to turn up for classes or simply skip courses altogether, instead disappearing into British society to become illegal residents.

The Home Office action against London Metropolitan has roused a storm of liberal ire. We are reminded that providing education for foreigners is an important source of national income. So it is, but it is intolerable to allow tens of thousands of phoney students to play the system simply to get through Heathrow.

Let us hope the Home Office keeps its nerve amid all the wailing from the president of the National Union of Students, and leaves London Metropolitan hung out to dry.

Dismay
We must somehow find means to restore sanity to its rightful place in controlling immigration, so criminals, terrorists and other undesirables cannot get in or are thrown out for good if they do and decent people like John Tulloch are not thrown out.

When shall we learn to embrace the good people who come here, of whatever race or creed, and treat the bad ones with the firmness ruthlessness, if you like that is essential to preserve a Britain we will still recognise a generation hence?

I sometimes hear Conservative MPs wail plaintively: What do we need to do to regain the trust of voters, and especially of the Tory faithful?

London Metropolitan University: A damning Government study suggested few of its overseas students were attending lectures
There is at least one easy answer to that: David Cameron, at whatever cost to his relationship with Nick Clegg, must launch a serious effort to end the tyranny of human rights, which cripples every attempt to control immigration. Even if Cameron failed, as he might well, he would receive the warm gratitude of the British people for making the attempt.

Second only to our struggling economy, largely uncontrolled immigration is the greatest source of public alarm and dismay in Britain. The latest population figures show why it is wholly understandable that it should be so.

As long as the immigration system continues to evict the likes of John Tulloch and to indulge the presence here of convicted felons, the British people will consider it a failure. And as long as our politicians do nothing effective about it, they will stand accused of betraying our society.

Yes the government gives homes, money, schooling to people who hate us yet throw out Brits, I say get those who do not belong in this country out now, including all the politicians and their families, friends and relations who put the country in this mess, or just hang them from a lamp post. I bet they would take notice of the people then !!!

I saw Prof Tullochs pic in the Daily Mail and he was bloodied from the 7/7 bombing. On the opposite page was black Somali Mo Farrar who has British citizenship.
Prof Tulloch is white and of British origin. What is happening when he is rejected for British Citizenship and yet all these blacks and browns get it??.
He has been here a long while and is married to a British woman. He should be allowed to stay.
The whole situation is disgusting and stinks of more weasel admin from our bent government.
