Warning: Mark Serwotka said people should brace themselves for industrial action
Union barons warned yesterday that Britain could be on the brink of the first general strike since 1926.
On the first day of the TUC conference, they revealed that a debate will be held tomorrow on staging the first national stoppage for 86 years.
Vital services would be wiped out with key workers including teachers, prison guards, firemen, nurses, dinner ladies and paramedics likely to walk out.
The two biggest teaching unions have already voted for industrial action with further details expected today.
But the key motion, proposed by the Prison Officers Association, reveals plans to resist austerity measures, starting with a demonstration on October 20 organised by the TUC.
The proposal calls for the unions to continue to lead from the front against the uncaring government with a coalition of resistance.
This involves co-ordinated action with far-reaching campaigns, including the consideration and practicalities of a general strike.
Even if a country-wide stoppage is not agreed, union leaders warned yesterday that people should still brace themselves for more industrial action.

Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union, said: We need to see the maximum amount of industrial action as soon as possible after the demonstration.
He claimed the greatest favour that unions can do for the public is to pile on as much pressure as possible to make [the Governments] difficulties worse.
The GMB, the PCS and the RMT transport union yesterday pledged their support for the general strike motion.

A taste of things to come? Demonstrations during the general strike in 1926, which was organised by the Trade Union Congress
The mass walkout threat came as two of the biggest unions the GMB and Unison pledged to work closely together in a move which is widely expected to lead to a merger.
Asked when they will get married, Paul Kenny, general secretary of the GMB, said the two were just living in sin but talk every day.
A merger would create a super-union, the countrys largest, with about two million members. At present, the biggest union is Unite with 1.4million members.

Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison, warned disruption was on its way, insisting it was not just the traditional rhetoric of the Trades Union Congress held every September.
Both he and Mr Kenny said they had no doubt there would be industrial action by their two unions
Public sector workers leaders are furious at the Governments imposition of a two-year pay freeze on staff who earn 21,000 or more.

Bring it on. It will give us a chance to see just how "vital" these NON=PRODUCERS are in the overall scheme of things. then we can
get rid of the ones we do not need.

Public sector workers get higher pay than the private sector and also much, much better pensions.
Are they grateful for this?
Not a bit and the commie unions are now pushing for an all out strike.
Well if it stops benefits being paid that must be a good thing.
Otherwise the world will not notice.
