WHILE 3M STARVING SOME GET 100K IN BENEFITS IN THE UK
Nearly 12,000 households are claiming 20,000 a year
Sunday November 25,2012
By Jon Coates AT LEAST five families have been receiving more than 100,000 in housing benefit to live in homes only the dream of most hard-working British families.
A further 150 receive more than 50,000. The number of claims is also at a record level, breaking through the five million landmark for the first time in February, rising to an all-time high of 5,051,120 across England and Wales in August.
Claimants include more than a million single parent families, adding close to 500million a month to the 23billion annual cost of the taxpayers subsidy.
That statistic in particular sparked anger, with critics arguing that the benefit system is an incentive to young women to get pregnant, as their new family will be catapulted to the front of the housing queue.
Matthew Sinclair, chief executive of the TaxPayers Alliance, said: Its key that the cost of the housing benefit bill is brought down and that our welfare system incentivises work.
Benefits must be fair on those paying for the system as well as those using it.

The Department for Work and Pensions figures reveal that a third of claimants are in privately rented homes, which typically cost far more than social housing.
Nearly 12,000 households are claiming 20,000 a year, while the number receiving 40,000, seven times the average mortgage bill, has almost trebled to 380.
Stephanie Fennessy, 29, and her partner Ian Sharp, 56, who live in a five-bedroom house in Erith, south-east London with their 10 children and claim 50,000 a year, blamed the Government for being unable to find them jobs.
The area with the highest number of jobless claimants is Hartlepool in County Durham where 31.7 per cent of the working age population receive benefits.
The next worst area is Fenland in Cambridgeshire, followed by Blaenau Gwent and Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, Tamworth in Staffordshire, Knowsley in Merseyside and Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire.
The Coalitions 20,800-a-year limit will be applied to all payments from next April.
A spokeswoman said: We are capping housing benefit so that people on benefits have to make the same choices about where to live as working families do.
The revelation about families claiming 100,000 a year is from a Freedom of Information request.
I love reading comments regarding the benefit cut where they are all for it, because they are sick of the ''scroungers'' and people who commit ''benefit fraud''. I don't suffer fools gladly, what is wrong with you people? Do you not realize that a massive proportion of those benefits go to the MP's? It makes me laugh out loud at how naive people are.. MP's claim more benefits than all the scroungers put together, through freedom of in formation act, its already been revealed that these trumped up blighters are claiming well over 50,000 a year in benefits! 400 a month food (PLUS their wage), a second mortgage, rent on their homes, travel fares, 5 star hotels, meals out with their chums, even menial things like Kitkats and Chrome towel holders are claimed from YOUR tax paid money, so let me ask you, who are the REAL scroungers in this country. Wake up England. |
