Mass in kilograms of any substance counts when talking about energy in any form � you cannot ignore mass.

The mass of the atmosphere is of the order of 5.3 x 10 to the power of 18 kg. The mass of the oceans is of the order of 1.37 x 10 to the power of 21 kg.

The oceans are 260 times the mass of the total atmosphere.

CO2 is about 0.04% of the atmosphere � about 400 ppm � rounded up.

The oceans are 646,226 times the mass of the total CO2 in the atmosphere.

Methane is about 0.0002% of the atmosphere � about 2000 ppb � rounded up.

The oceans are 122,641,509 times the mass of the total methane in the atmosphere.

Only an insane person could claim something which is always colder � the atmosphere � can heat something which is always warmer � the surface � BUT it takes a special kind of �genius� to claim that something which is half a million times less mass (CO2) or hundreds of millions times less mass (methane) has a powerful effect on the oceans.

As for ocean acidification � CO2 in water is a very weak acid I seriously doubt there is enough CO2 in the whole atmosphere to make any significant difference to the pH of the oceans given the mass imbalance � and that is if it all dissolved at once and that obviously isn�t going to happen. The ocean is slightly alkaline and consists of a chemical cocktail of dissolved mineral salts known to chemists as a buffer.

Buffers resist changes in pH by even strong acids � a weak acid with tiny mass compared to the water is not going to have much impact.

The final irony in all their convoluted reasoning is they claim GHGs are responsible for 87% of the cooling of the Earth � why would increasing the amount of the main coolant do anything other than increase the cooling effect ?

The people who get concerned over such nonsense have simply lost the plot.
