It's a bit late to be playing the 'British' card now

In the hands of the Westminster elite, the politically correct concept of Britishness is perversely anti-British

Until recently, that would have seemed an improbable outcome of the Scottish referendum on independence. But in the last fortnight the opinion polls have narrowed dramatically. As support for the union has declined, the Westminster politicians have been gripped by panic. Without any mandate from the British electorate, they have lavished promises of more rights, more powers and more cash for the Scots in the event of a No vote.

The entire conduct of the referendum campaign by the Westminster elite has been nauseating, as they slid from arrogant complacency into tearful hysteria. But nothing has been more repulsive than the attempt by these incompetent, self-serving mediocrities to don the mantle of patriotism, professing their deep love for the British nation. All these eleventh hour declarations of patriotic devotion are hypocritical in the extreme. These are the very politicians who have presided over the wilful, systematic destruction of our national identity, independence and heritage during the last two decades.

No one who is truly patriotic would have acted as they have done. They have allowed the European Union to remove our capacity for self-government. They have imposed mass immigration on an epic scale to tear apart our social cohesion and sense of solidarity. They have utterly devalued the concept of British citizenship through the dismantling of our borders and the dishing out of passports like confetti. As a result of their policies, we now have "British" jihadis beheading western civilians in Iraq and "British" Pakistani sex gangs preying on vulnerable English girls in Rotherham.

In the modern Britain built by the politicians, where the "celebration" of cultural diversity is the central theme of the public sector and where more than 500,000 foreigners settle here every year, millions of tolerant, decent British people feel like aliens in their own land. This is now a country where white Britons are significantly in the minority in urban areas like Slough, London, and Luton. Only this week, a new study revealed that Muslim pupils outnumber Christians in schools in Birmingham, Leicester, Bradford and Tower Hamlets.

The profession of love for Britain by our party leaders on the campaign trail in Scotland has been a complete sham. They cannot convince because they do not believe. Far from feeling that spirit of national pride which is instinctive to most people, the metropolitan elite is so obsessed with multi-culturalism and European integration that it sees patriotism as a form of xenophobia, even racism. This sneering attitude was perfectly captured in the report of the Labour Government's inquiry into "The Future of Multi-Ethnic Britain", published in 2000, which stated that the very term British had "racist connotations", so the country's history had to be "revised, rethought and jettisoned".

That was the view also followed by the Labour politician Robin Cook, who showed his contempt for the idea of British nationality by claiming that the British are nothing more than "a gathering of countless different races and communities, the vast majority of which are not indigenous to these islands." That statement was a travesty of the truth. Until the modern era of mass immigration, Britain was one of the most homogenous nations on earth. In 1940 there were just 238,000 foreigners living in the country, less than half the current influx of immigrants every single year.

But Cook's words are highly revealing. They demonstrate that, to the modern political class, Britishness is not expression of nationhood but rather a vehicle for promoting the twin creeds of mass immigration and cultural diversity. In the hands of the Westminster elite, the politically correct concept of Britishness is perversely anti-British. It is really an ideological instrument of national assisted suicide.

This partly explains why unpatriotic politicians like Nick Clegg, neurotically devoted to the EU and mass immigration, are so desperate to foil Scottish independence. It also explains their ferocious hostility to any surge in English patriotism, which is seen as a dangerous threat to their projection of social revolution. So pride in England has to be painted as dark menace, a phenomenon of extremism. There are few more disdainful phrases in the left-wing lexicon than "Little Englander." Progressives recoil at the flag of St.George and are repulsed by "Land of Hope and Glory." In fact, Labour veteran Margaret Hodge openly criticised the Last Night of the Proms for being insufficiently inclusive of ethnic minorities. In the same vein, her colleague Jack Straw once said that "the English are potentially very aggressive, very violent," a sweeping generalisation that he would not dream of using about any other people.

This antipathy towards England has been graphically highlighted during the Referendum campaign, not only by the Scottish nationalists but also by the Westminster politicians. In their eagerness to appease the Scots, they have treated the English as second-class citizens, only to be used for they money, never consulted about their future. This gross injustice is seen in its worst form in the pledge by the three party leaders to retain the notorious Barnett formula, by which public expenditure in Scotland per head is 20 per cent higher than in England, despite English MPs have no real say in the governance of Scotland.

This is certain to create a huge backlash in England. The paradox is that metropolitan elite is fuelling the very force of English nationalism that they claim to despise. "We are the people of England that have never spoken yet," wrote G.K.Chesterton. The voice of the English cannot be ignored any longer

No matter what the outcome of the Scottish referendum the ENGLISH will now want a say in everything------------ the first thing we need to do is get rid of the so called political elite who think we work for them, then get out of the EU and the unHuman rights laws, repatriate all the so called immigrants and asylum seekers along with that religion of terrorists and rapists Islam----------------PANDORAS BOX IS NOW OPEN
