David Cameron at the EU budget summit. It has been revealed that more than 3,300 eurocrats are paid more than the Prime Minister
More than 3,300 eurocrats are paid more than the Prime Minister, it has been revealed today.

Many are entitled to 93 days holiday a year, living conditions allowances of up to 40 per cent of their salary, and a host of other benefits including first class travel, and top of the range office cars.

It comes after it was revealed that EU officials had quaffed 120 bottles of wine as they discussed austerity measures.

And former PM Tony Blair is this week expected to wade into the debate, warning that any disengagement from the European Union would be a disaster for the UK economy.

According to figures obtained by the Sunday Times, EU officials work a basic 37 and a half hour week, receive 18 public holidays, including 'Europe day', and are also entitled to a 16 per cent bonus if they work outside their country of origin.

Staff with families get a monthly household allowance of 137 plus two per cent of base salary, a dependent child allowance of 301 a month, and an educational allowance of up to 203 a month per child
The European Commission has defended the arrangements claiming that many of the workers were 'highly qualified professionals'.

A spokesman added: 'The comparison with national civil services is not fair as we should be compared to international organisations such as international law firms or diplomatic agencies.'
David Cameron has said he is astonished that EU bosses are refusing to cut a single euro from their spending plans as the two-day summit designed to fix the next seven-year budget deal for the EU broke up without agreement.

British officials were also surprised EU bosses thought it appropriate to serve leaders with 1992 Chateau Angelus Grand Cru, a red wine costing 120 a bottle, as they discussed spending plans.
President Jose Manuel Barroso (left) and Herman Van Rompuy (right) are paid 240,000 a year plus allowances

THE PERKS OF BEING A EUROCRAT
The perks see a 16 per cent bonus paid to any EU national working outside their country of origin.
Staff with families get a monthly household allowance of 137 plus two per cent of base salary, and a dependent child allowance of 301 a month.
People with children can claim an educational allowance of up to 203 a month per child, and a pre-school allowance of 73 a month for each child under five.

There is a final salary pension scheme
.Among the best looked after are the diplomatic staff working in more than 130 embassies around the world. Some get 93 days holiday a year.

They also receive a living conditions allowance of up to 40 per cent of salary, based on posting.

One of the reasons negotiations over the next EU budget failed on Friday was because the EU demanded an increase of almost 5bn for administrative expenditure - including generous salaries and pensions.

Nigel Farage said: 'The life of a eurocrat is easy, with high salaries, low taxes and generous pension schemes not to mention numerous holidays, 'subsistence allowances' and 'relocation allowances' and money for each child they have.
'Many have Friday afternoons off, there are subsidised restaurants and cafes and of course discounts in shops if they show their parliament pass.
'And yet they have the audacity to strike outside the budget talks when the rest of the EU were demanding that yet more of their taxes went into the EU slush fund.

'No wonder the majority of people in the UK want to leave the EU.'
A spokesman for President Jose Manuel Barroso, who is paid 240,000 a year plus allowances, told the paper the commission had already made significant cuts.

They said: 'Since 2007 the commision operates on the basis of 'zero growth' in human resources.

'We now propose to cut the staff of each institution by five per cent.'
Former PM Tony Blair is expected to look to rally the business community behind a campaign to halt the Eurosceptic bandwagon at a speech on Wednesday.

He will address the Business for New Europe coalition of business leaders arguing that the EU needs to promote a 'grand plan' about its purpose, driving home the message that member states can best take on these huge economic powers as a united bloc.

He will highlight statistics showing that 47 per cent of UK exports go to EU member states while 50 per cent of foreign direct investment is from EU countries, The Observer reports.

I wonder what they are going to do when the EU collapses, they better not still be entitled to any pensions as this would be totally unacceptable. As for Blair, he is no longer an MP, he is and was part of the problem not the solution and he would be well advised to keep silent as his time to be called to account by the British people and the Law is looming on the horizon.
