BRITAIN is braced for a showdown with Brussels over plans to impose anti-fraud justice that could see the EU have power over our courts.

Under the proposals, British citizens could be arrested, jailed and have cars and homes seized by courts in any of the 27 EU member states � even for �offences� which are not recognised in the UK.

Justice Secretary Chris Grayling and other ministers are insisting Britain must be able to opt out and see the move as little more than a power grab by Brussels.

Mr Grayling raised objections at a meeting of EU ministers last month. It is understood the Government is also preparing a legal challenge in the European Court of Justice.

A Government source said: �This is mission creep and another attempt to create a European-wide criminal justice system. It�s just not acceptable for the European Commission to try to bend the rules in an attempt to stop us opting out � and you can be sure we�ll be opposing it.�

The European Commission says it is acting to reduce the billions wasted through fraud and corruption in Brussels and in EU projects across Europe.

Last year � for the 18th year in a row � the EU�s spending watchdog refused to sign off its accounts, raising questions over �89billion of spending.

Alleged fiddles included an aid agency paying itself �4million for �technical assistance� and a farmer paid to carry out orchard management who failed to prune his trees.

The EC claims it already has the powers to set up a cross-border legal system under the Lisbon Treaty agreed by Labour. A discussion document argues that the fight against EU fraud is undermined by the different legal systems across member states which �do not consistently provide punishment of corrupt elected or appointed office holders and officials�.

EC chiefs plan to draw up new offences of fraud and corruption and to set out �sanctions for these offences including minimum terms of imprisonment� and rules for �confiscation and recovery of proceeds�. The proposals mean a massive expansion in legal powers for a string of EU organisations including the European Anti-Fraud Office and the Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice.

Tory MP Dominic Raab said: �It�s telling that even the EU now recognises that it has a problem with endemic fraud and corruption.

�But it is typical for Brussels to respond with a power grab and an attempt to set up an EU prosecutor, rather than cutting down on bureaucracy, waste and reckless spending of taxpayers� money.� Last year, EU anti-fraud commissioner Algirdas Semeta said: �The current approach to protecting EU funds across Europe is patchy at best. Fraudsters should not escape prosecution and sanctions simply because of their geographical location.�

Commission vice-president Viviane Reding said: �Our aim is clear: To ensure that EU budget fraud does not go unpunished.

The only reason why the EU want to run our Legal system is because they know as does Transparency International Know that "The UK court and Judicial system are shown to be rotten to the core" and only there for Crooks, Bent MP's,(who can get afforded Legal Aid representation if they filch expenses/allowances out the Public Purse) whereby decent ordinary impecunious Victims (of indictable crime whom have been injured/disabled also robbed by such Parasites when seeking Justice,) instead ..find we get threatened and warned off by the Police for reporting such Criminal Activities; then to rub salt in Many decent ordinary impecunious Victims wounds, we find we then get denied Legal Aid Funding made readily available, (never mind the cost on the Public taken out the Public Purse , then used for protecting potential Bombers and those whom preach hate against the UK [clear proof recently shown over the last five years,] many of whom it appears are in the UK Illegally!!)
Then we get those whom can buy Bent Justice as and when they like .....Therefore Is there any wonder why Transparency International rates The UK only 27th for observing Democratic Rights and Freedoms of The decent ordinary Victims citizens reporting Crime....
